Title: DELLORTO CARB SETTING UP/TUNING
Post by: FUZZY on 21:20 Monday 30 March 2009
Hi  ... Anyone one out there help me.
Purchased unfinished project. Mk 1 Escort.  Previous keeper states running 1670 crossflow, lightened fflywheel, uprated cam and head, running single twin barrel dellorto on Lynx manifold.   Tried starting it and get following symptoms.  Runs for few seconds then coughs and dies. after 2 or 3 such attempts coughs back through carb and sprays petrol over inner wing which ignites (not good). As i dont want the car 'crispy' anyone any ideas about what the problem is and how to set the car running well enough to get it the MOT and to the rolling road to get it properly set up.
Cheers Phil

P.S. tHE XR3I non-starting turned out to be non original alarm malfunctioning  (not yet cured but at least I now know why)

Hey Phil, check ignition timing is correct, if you get no joy there wind the mixture screw on the carb fully in then back it off 2 complete turns, that should get it running somewhere close enough.

Hope that helps buddy

Hi .... timing was OK but found out what it was.......  Took top off carb.  one of the pillars that hold float pivot pin was bust off so float was basically floating.  Put carb I had sitting about on and got engine running but as it was off 1300 it was under jetted and wouldn't idle.
So has anyone out there got a carb (and manifold) suitable for a tuned 1600 crossflow please.
Thanks Phil.
