Marmite (so named by a previous owner because you either love or hate the interior) started life as a beige 3 litre S with a brown interior ( Very Nice). I know nothing of the car’s early history but in approximately 1990 the car was cosmetically modified by Alan Burt to its current state. (See Pictures). Alan also fitted a rover V8 at the same time and apparently took the car to several shows before deciding to sell the car. He also converted the car back to a 2 litre in order to make it easier to sell. I first saw the car in 2003 when it was bought by a friend of mine and was offered the car to buy. At the time I declined mainly due to the fact that I had just had to give up driving because of a problem with my eye sight. In early 2004 the car was sold on and the new owner fitted a modified 3 litre V6 Essex and running gear off a 2.8i. It was at this time that I was again offered the car and this time I couldn’t resist the sound of the new engine. It also helped that I had discovered a local track day where I could take the car to drive.
I showed the car at several shows during 2004 but did little to the car except fitting deflex bushes on the front and the addition of a 2” bore performance exhaust system from the Capri Club International.
In December 2004 I was offered a Rover 3.5 V8 in exchange for the essex 3l and having always dreamed of owning a v8 capri I excepted. Now all I had to do was make it fit. This was fitted in the winter of ’04-’05. See V8 conversion pages for details.
The V8 has been fitted for almost a year now and I have been very pleased with the result. Not only does the car sound and go better but I think the Rover V8 looks better under the bonnet. I have recently fitted a Holley 390 cfm carb with a offenhauser 360 inlet manifold in order to sort out a problem caused by the K & N filters on the standard carbs. This has also allowed me to fit a chrome strut brace and the engine bay now looks even better. I have also made changes to the car including Mark II Granada front brake calipers, minilite style wheels, brushed aluminium fascia, stainless steel tread plates and various other external & internal changes, but like all projects there is always something else that needs doing.
